CICS Application
Debugging Workshop
Abstract
This workshop demonstrates how easy it is to
debug vanilla CICS transaction dumps. The goal is to develop the skill to go
straight to the problem and solve it by implementing changes to failing
applications such that repetitive problems can be eliminated.
Prerequisites
Some experience of working with applications
either batch or CICS.
Audience
Programmers, System Programmers and Production
Support personnel.
Objectives.
At the end of the course the student should
have a good understanding of the structure of CICS and be able to:
Gather State Data from failing applications using both
online and offline vanilla tools.
Solve ASRA and AICA transaction dumps in particular.
Discuss the issues related to Storage Violations and
Transaction Isolation.
Topics covered in
this course include:
Introduction to CICS debugging data and tools such as Debug
Tool and CEDX/F
Walkthrough a typical dump (ASRA)
The technique of solving CICS transaction dumps
Storage Violation issues
Program CALL and LINK issues
The student will be expected to solve the following
CICS/TS 2.2 transaction dumps:
ASRA
AEIL
AEYH
AICA
ASRA (more complex)
